Good Neighbor Scholarship

Program Purpose

 

The Good Neighbor Scholarship (GNS) Program is designed to encourage academically talented students from the countries of the Western (American) hemisphere (other than Cuba and the U.S.) to pursue higher education in the State of Texas.

 

Who can apply?

 

An individual must:

  • Be a native-born citizen and current resident of a nation of the Western Hemisphere other than Cuba or the United States;
  • Intend to return to the eligible country upon completion of his/her program of study;
  • Be admitted unconditionally at an eligible public institution in Texas; and
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress
  • Not be a dual citizen of an eligible country and United States of America.

Limited to public colleges and universities in the State of Texas

 

How much can be awarded?

 

The Good Neighbor Scholarship provides an exemption from the payment of tuition (not fees) for 12 months beginning with the Fall Semester following selection as a scholarship recipient. One year of tuition (Fall, Spring, and Summer). This is an exemption program for which the state does not reimburse institutions. Institutions that submit recommendation forms do so with the understanding that they will exempt selected students from the payment of tuition.

For the 2024-2025 year, complete the application provided in the link below no later than February 18, 2024.

Recommendations for awards will be processed and submitted to the Coordinating Board by the participating institution. The deadline for Collin College to submit to the Coordinating Board for the 2024-2025 academic year is March 15, 2024.
